What did Jesus actually mean by “eternal life”? Do all souls live forever—and if so, where? Is heaven really our forever home, and what happens to the earth when Jesus returns? In the Nicene Creed we proclaim, “We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.” Why does the Creed culminate with these words, and how do they bring the whole Christian story together? In this study, we’ll place familiar Christian assumptions alongside Scripture and explore the larger biblical story: the gospel Jesus preached, resurrection, judgment, new creation, and the life of the world to come.
